Air evacuations are set to begin in Yellowknife, the capital of Canada's Northwest Territories, as wildfires approach the city. Residents in high-risk areas are advised to leave as soon as possible, while others have until noon on Friday to evacuate.

The city is not currently in immediate danger, but officials are concerned that the fire could reach the outskirts by the weekend if it doesn't rain. Over 200 wildfires have already burned a widespread area in the Northwest Territories, leading to the evacuation of eight communities.

Canadian Forces personnel are assisting with firefighting efforts and evacuations. This year has seen a record number of wildfires in Canada, with over 21,000 square kilometers already burned.
