Lebanon's parliament erupted into heated disagreement on Wednesday as politicians debated the country's 2024 draft budget. Reformist MP Melhem Khalaf, in his objection to the passing of legislation, stormed out of the hall, declaring that he would not violate the constitution. Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee, MP Ibrahim Kanaan, stated that the draft budget lacks economic and social vision and has insufficient allocations for capital expenditures. A financial source revealed that the budget contained hidden revenues, potentially allowing for waste and corruption. In Italy, Defence Minister Guido Crosetto announced that the country would provide hospital treatment for 100 Palestinian children from Gaza. The first 30 children will be flown from Egypt, where they sought refuge and medical assistance after escaping Israeli bombardment, and another 30 will be transported by ship at the end of January.

The remaining 40 children's transportation was not provided with details. Crosetto emphasized that Italy's move was a moral duty. The children will be treated in hospitals in Bologna, Florence, Genoa, and Rome. The decision comes amid ongoing Israeli attacks in Gaza, leading to thousands of deaths and serious humanitarian crises in the region. Italy is taking concrete steps to provide medical care and support for displaced Palestinian children in need.
