As Shami fails Yo-Yo test, Delhi's Navdeep Saini makes it to the India A cricket team

Speedster Mohammed Shami failed the crucial Yo-Yo fitness test on Monday. The All-India Senior Selection Committee then called in Delhi speedster Navdeep Saini for the one-off Test against Afghanistan starting June 14.

The rookie Saini has been noticed for his quick red ball deliveries in domestic cricket. After consistent Ranji Trophy performance in the past two seasons, many believe that this youngster may be the one to watch out for in the future.

Saini will join the the four-day set-up of the India A team to tour UK next month.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Navdeep Saini as Mohammed Shami's replacement in the Indian Test team for the upcoming Paytm Test against Afghanistan. The announcement came after Mohd. Shami failed to clear the fitness test at NCA, Bengaluru," the BCCI release stated.

The Indian team must meet a benchmark of 16.1 to clear the Yo-Yo test, as set by the BCCI.

According to a senior BCCI official: "Karun Nair and Hardik Pandya were the two best performers in the Yo-Yo Test with scores of above 18."

Apart from injuries, the 27-year-old Shami is also facing charges of domestic violence by his wife.

Another to fail the test, keeper-batsman Sanju Samson has been replaced by former India U-19 captain Ishan Kishan.
