Germany Drowns: Widespread Flooding and Flight Chaos as Severe Storms Batter the Nation

Heavy rain and severe storms caused widespread flooding and flight cancellations in parts of Germany. Frankfurt Airport, the country's busiest and a major European hub, had to cancel dozens of flights after large quantities of water accumulated on the tarmac.

Ground handling at the airport was suspended for more than two hours, leading to the diversion of 23 flights to other airports. The storm also deluged streets, flooded basements, and toppled trees, with the fire service conducting over 500 operations in response. Climate change is believed to be a factor in the increased frequency and severity of such extreme weather events.
