Iraq Condemns Attack on US Service Members in Jordan, Warns of Escalating Threat to Regional Stability

The Iraqi government has strongly condemned the recent attack that killed three US service members in Jordan, describing it as an escalation that poses a threat to regional stability. Iraqi government spokesperson Basim Alawadi expressed concern over the alarming security developments in the region and called for an end to the cycle of violence. The United States has accused Iran-backed militant groups in Syria and Iraq of carrying out the attack, marking the first deadly blow against US forces since the eruption of the Gaza war. Iran-aligned groups have been launching attacks against Israeli and US targets from various countries in the Middle East.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella organization of hardline Iran-backed militant groups, claimed responsibility for attacks on three bases, including one on the Jordan-Syria border. Despite ongoing talks between Iraq and the US to end the international military coalition's deployment in Iraq, Iran-aligned militias have vowed to continue attacks on US forces. While Iraq's government is supported by parties and militias close to Iran, officials have condemned the attacks and called for an end to regional escalation as long as the Gaza war continues. This attack comes as Iraq and the United States are in talks about ending the US-led military coalition's presence in Iraq, which was initially deployed as part of the campaign against the Islamic State.
